What is fretworthy?

As I wallow in my self-pity - God is faithful to occasionally open my eyes to the real issues of life. I received an email that contained the following:

"After a yearlong battle with brain cancer, Jennifer's dad passed away this morning around 6:00 a.m.  His wife and his children were all able to say goodbye, and we are thankful that he is in Heaven now and experiences no more pain.  Thank you for your prayers!"

 

As my wife and I are driving to vote - we pass an older lady pushing a younger lady in a wheel chair. The young lady in the wheel chair had an apparent ailment that kept her arms in certain positions and it was apparent that the wheelchair was necessary for any mobility....as we passed by, the sun was in the young ladies face...a smile, that was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen, flashed across her face. A smile.

 

Thankful? Smiling? In times of sadness and in a situation that seems hopeless to so many. What do they know? What have they learned?

 

Matthew 5:2-12

 ^11(S) "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely^(T) on my account. ^12(U) Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for^(V) so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
