I am a fairly abrupt person that is often slave to his immediate emotions. In regards to snappiness, or harshness, or even affection…I am a spur of the moment kind of guy. Scripture says that we should hold our thoughts captive to Christ. Oops. As I was listening to CS Lewis this morning and happened upon this great quote:
“Surely what a man does when he is taken of his guard is the best evidence for what sort of man he is, surely what pops out before the man has time to put on a disguise is the truth.”
That split second where we let our sinful nature respond instead of the renewed mind of Christ.
It’s difficult for me. Even today, I was being “too direct” with a coworker. I am blessed that another coworker that heard it cared enough to call me on it privately. However, that was the best evidence for what sort of person I am. Earlier in the chapter, CS Lewis was referring to some stories where a boy was transformed into the mask that he wore…I see where he was going with that. I suppose that when we wear that mask that we SHOULD have on enough, that will change our very person. It was surely in reference to renewing your mind…and being transformed, not conformed to this world.
Oh well, I am sure this will only make sense to me. But, it’s my thought of the day!
